Mothra's Super-sized Shobijin by Ray-Norr Mothra's Super-sized Shobijin by Ray-Norr
Been watching Godzilla movies lately (in anticipation for the new movie, which was great!), and thought it'd be fun to draw the two little fairy girls that speak for/represent Mothra.  They aren't so tiny anymore!  And people were complaining the new Godzilla was fat ;)

Well, depends. Mothra's a female that's right. Fairy and Mothra Leo (Mothra's child) are boys

No, he's just big-boned. Then again, the 1990s Godzilla was probably too skinny instead.

Godzilla's always been pretty chunky.  He's built more like a strongman in the new film.  Zilla (from the 98 movie) on the other hand was built for running away =P

Bring on the radiation and destruction of urban areas if we can get women like that as a side effect! ;)

I'll say! However, I am sure that should some supersized terror be stomping around, it would spare your home out of the same profound respect for your art that I have. ;)

Well, thats something I thought I'd never see. I did the Shobijin before too, but that was about 10 years ago, and they were the version from TOKYO SOS. Great work on this. Are you a big G-fan? You ever been to G-FEST?

I saw that pic of yours while looking for reference pics of the twins actually (it showed up on a google image search lol).  I'm a fan of Godzilla for sure, though I've still not seen all the movies (i need to watch the Heisei era films).  Haven't been to G-fest though I've heard of it. You been?

I've been to 14 G-FESTs, and you'll find me there again this July. My friends are putting together this awesome Akira Ifukube concert there that was funded through Kickstarter. If you want to see the Heisei movies, Sony just reissued them on Blu-ray; I recommend these versions because some are more complete than before (a couple have their end credits restored, whereas the previous US DVD releases did not). Also a few now have Japanese audio tracks too. As odd as it would seem, despite all this art I draw and the site I run, Godzilla is my true passion.

Wow, that's awesome! Wish I could be there, sounds like the G-fest is a lot of fun.
I'll definitely take a look into the Heisei era blu-rays.  Which series/movie is your favorite?
Maybe you should start drawing more Godzilla related art, since it is your passion :)
He and his monster compatriots are a blast to illustrate

I would highly recommend G-FEST. Although for me in recent years it's just as much about the friends you've made and get to see every year, than just the con itself and everything that comes with it. The Heisei Blu-rays shouldn't be hard to find, right now even Wal-mart and Target are stocking them. I'm not good when it comes to "favorites". Like anyone would say, the original GODZILLA is the best, but I just have others I favor a bit more or less than others. MOTHRA VS. GODZILLA would definitely be a favorite. And I probably should draw more kaiju. I just have more experience going expansion art. I think a lot of kaiju art I'd do would be in a more cartoony style, I'm not good with the more realistic stuf.

An Akira Ifukube concert? Outstanding, will there be anyway to listen/watch a live feed or will the concert be available to download somewhere after for the G-fans around the world who can't afford to travel to America?

No, there was a way if you donated to the Kickstarter campaign, but that's now closed. Depending on the amount given you could receive a CD and DVD recordings. They're pretty particular about these being ONLY produced once, for the people who donated, as an incentive given that they had to raise $25,000 in about a months time. It's amazing they were able to do so (and even overshot their goal by about $5000).

I don't feel it's right to be so noninclusive to the rest of the Godzilla fans around the world who weren't informed about this concert - we don't all check up on Godzilla news on the internet every month. It's good that those who donated get a limited edition DVD and CD - I assume with artwork. But this type of thing honestly should be uploaded to the internet to give everyone a chance to hear it.

I don't even know if that would be possible, nor how they'd go about doing it. This is done with permission of Toho Music, and you know how Toho is. The recordings are just for higher level sponsors; Not to brag, but I shelled out $150 just so I could get both the CD and DVD of the event.

I can see why the new film wouldn't sit well with some people (lots of teasing instead of showing, bland lead character, etc.). Still, there was enough I liked about it to outweigh the bad.
